Emily is the person I would want next to me in challenging situations. I'll always remember how Emily helped out with a particularly challenging situation. This student was, at times, violent, and teachers and parents were frustrated that nothing they tried seemed to be working. The moment Emily arrived, the temperature in the room dropped. She helped us re-focus on the student's strengths and all the things we loved about the kiddo. She then walked us through how we could leverage those strengths and build successes and teach him the skills he needed to overcome the obstacles. The student was able to integrate fully into the classroom because what Emily does works.

Emily was a "mentor" to me before she was actually my mentor—doing great things for the field of Social Work while I was still in graduate school. Lucky for me, I began working at the same organization as Emily and she was assigned to be my mentor. Not only did she guide my learning and practice in those early years, she also was the brightest ray of sunshine and made me feel so welcomed and competent. Emily has a way of empowering you to do and be better, while instilling in you a belief that you are everything you need to be already. Many years later, I became teammates with Emily. She gave me that same feeling, all those years later—inspiring me to do and be better, while ensuring me that I belonged there on that team. Emily makes ripples wherever she goes and she does it so effortlessly, with grace and lots of humor (which makes her super fun and relatable, too)! I have had the privilege of working with Emily first as a teacher and then as a consultant. When I was a teacher, Emily supported me and taught me so much! Whenever I had a student that I struggled to find the right balance in supporting learning and managing behaviors Emily was such an awesome resource. She did not just walk into my classroom and tell me this is what I need to do, instead she observed first and listened to my concerns. Emily is so gifted at asking questions to assist you in breaking down the concern to see where to start the teaching process. Emily then modeled strategies and coached me through how to Implement them myself with her next to me supporting me the whole way! I appreciated the modeling but what I appreciated even more was the coaching and understanding the process of why she thought the strategies would be successful. It allowed me to start working through problem solving strategies myself and grow in the way I look at and support behavior in the classroom. Emily would listen to my concerns and would not just come one time and share knowledge but would come back and coach and support until I felt confident and comfortable in supporting my students. It was a gift I could not ever thank her enough for! I truly am a better educator today because of the teaching, modeling and coaching she provided to me and my staff!
